With writing the Harry Potter books Rowling created a wonderful world which enchants those who has read it and everyone would like to be the part of it. Besides her humorous style, interesting characters and adventurous plot, writing about the difficulties of society is also contributed to her success. She deals with the gender roles among the walls of Hogwarts, in Muggle and wizard families alike. All these places provide women with equal chances in the fields of education, sport, work and political life as well. The importance of women in society is emphasized on the one hand by writing the books being a woman and in this way becoming the most recognized writer in the 21st century, on the other hand by reflecting how indispensable female characters are, talking about solving riddles or fighting the enemy. Unfortunately as for race and blood we cannot say the same. The same discrimination characterizes the magic society as ours. Those who hold themselves superior do not give equal opportunities the racially inferior, and there are only a few who would like to and try to make changes. Over and above the social issues, Rowling makes a criticism on the media which is as reliable information source in the world of wizards as in the Muggles’. As Harry Potter is supposed to be a children book, with the above mentioned issues Rowling shows the children a value system, which from adults can learn from as well, mainly represented by the hero, Harry who does not judge people and does not choose his friends according to their gender, wealth, blood or popularity.
