Jane Eyre, Shirley Keeldar and Caroline Helstone are unconventional heroines who have their own opinions and who are brave enough to declare them. They are not shown as passive figures who are the victims of circumstances but as active women who are ready to influence their lives as much as it is possible in their age. They strive to control their own lives which is an unusual desire in the Victorian era. Therefore they set an example that is worth following and that is why I decided to examine them more thoroughly.
