Absztrakt

The systematic utilisation of CBCT prior to the placement of an implant is not a routine investigation method as the panoramic imaging is still very present to fulfil the preliminary examination step and even further. The availability, the installation cost as well as the clinicians habits and levels of confidence have apparently participated to the prolonged trust put in the OPG radiographs. However, throughout two main parts we have questioned the relevance of solely relying on this affordable radiographic investigation technique, offering a global skeletal overview of the jaws and exposing the patient to a minimal radiation dose. Although it may render adequate vertical bone heights, the buccolingual bone width is not estimable. We have reported several times the dimensional magnification generated with OPG and affecting the oblique and posterior horizontal planes with greater extents.
