While a curative treatment remains surgical excision, chemotherapy is an important treatment in later stages, perhaps due its elimination of micrometastases that are not readily visible during surgery (not to mention its effect on larger metastases in stage IV disease). Chemotherapeutic drugs currently approved for the use in adjuvant treatment of stage III and some cases of stage II colorectal cancer are the fluoropyrimidines 5-fluorouracil and capecitabine (with or without the addition of folinic acid, which augments their action) and the platinum analog oxaliplatin. These drugs are used in several combination therapies that increase the disease-free survival and overall survival of patients. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is transient, reversible and precipitated by an acute emotional or physical stress, therefore it is also known as ”stress cardiomyopathy” or ”broken heart syndrome”. Their most common applications are for the prevention of thromboembolic diseases that may arise from atrial fibrillation and deep vein thrombosis which may cause stroke and pulmonary embolism. These traditional anticoagulants have their known limitations.Novel anticoagulants such as Rivaroxaban and Apixaban have a directly inhibiting effect of Factor Xa while Dabigatran inhibits the active site of Factor II, also known as thrombin. They are easy to administer, do not require routine monitoring, and have very few drug interactions. Favorably, they appear to be the ideal anticoagulants and thus most likely will eventually replace the older ones. This is proven as they have already received approval for several indications to prevent and treat thrombosis. The following study summarizes the presently known regimens of treatment, describes the drugs that have been historically used and lists the ones that are being prescribed. The modalities of treatment for each drug, its composition and its method of action are also outlined.
