In the spring of 1993 in Waco, Texas, some people’s most feared dream came true after a religious compound had burned to the ground with 79 people in it. All this started on February 28, 1993, when Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, abbreviated as ATF, raided a compound near Waco, Texas that belonged to a group called Branch Davidians. During the raid, four ATF agents died and six Branch Davidians were killed. After the incident, the Davidians were instantly charged with murder and a siege began that lasted for 51 days. This siege ended tragically on April 19 with a fire consuming the whole Davidian complex and the people inside. After the investigations, the FBI announced that the Davidians had committed mass suicide. “Since 1993, former FBI, Special Forces, and CIA operatives have come forward with evidence to suggest this was not true.” [...] Throughout this paper I would like to investigate how the incident happened, what was the role of the FBI, and how the agency adapted with ease or difficulty to the circumstances, which eventually led to a fire consuming much of the evidence.
