A vizuális automatikus változás detekció elektrofiziológiai vizsgálata

Absztrakt

Továbbá a viselkedés szervezés szempontjából irreleváns információk is feldolgozásra kerülnek, melyért egy rövid távú memória rendszer a felelős, mely képes összehasonlítani a vizuális események reprezentációit. A tézis tanulmányok klasszikus kakukktojás kísérleti elrendezés során mérték a szabályos szekvenciában megjelenő ingerekre, illetve attól eltérő eseményekre adott agyi válaszokat. A kísérletek során nagyszámú ingeranyaggal dolgoztunk, hiszen a fizikailag eltérő vizuális események csoportosításának (kategóriák mentális reprezentációi) idegi korrelátumait vizsgáltuk.

The visual mismatch negativity (vMMN) event-related brain potential (ERP) component is elicited by violation of sequential regularity established by environmental stimulation. The aim of the doctoral thesis is to examine the memory system underlying vMMN. The thesis studies suggest that the vMMN is sensitive to changes of perceptual categories without the involvement of the attentional processes. VMMN component is an error signal to discrepancy between earlier perceived, represented stimuli and actual, input stimuli. VMMN has been evoked to deviations in elementary features such as color, orientation and spatial frequency. Additionally it was observed to changes in perceptual categories of more complex stimuli (e.g. laterality of hands, emotions). In the thesis studies, the stimuli were with complex objects and the changes associated to natural categories (e.g.: faces or symmetry). The visual system is capable of the configuration of incoming visual features and represent the categories. The general and basic principle is proposing formation the perceptual categoization. We suggested that the vMMN is sensitive to automatic registration of natural categories even if the visual stimulation is not related to the ongoing behavior. The vMMN is commonly investigated by passive oddball paradigm: a frequently presented type of stimuli (standards) acquires the representation of regularity, and another, infrequently presented type of stimuli (deviants) violates this regularity. Both the standards and deviants are unrelated to task-demand. In the doctoral thesis studies the number of stimuli were high and the consecutive stimuli were never physically identical. As the main results of experiments, both the abstract (symmetry/random; homogeneous/ heterogeneous pattern) and the meaningful (gender faces) complex stimuli elicited a change-related posterior negativity with ca. 300 ms peak latency. We interpreted the long-lasting negativity as a manifestation of the perceptual category effect. The frequent visual stimuli acquired the representation of the category (the extraction of the common feature required the presentation of one category) and the stimuli deviating from the sequential appearance of patterns belonging to such a category were automatically registered. In conclusion, in the thesis studies we found robust vMMN effect, showing that the vMMN is sensitive to perceptual categorization processes because the implicit memory registered the categorical rule and detected the violation of such rule. In sum, the doctoral thesis studies indicate strong connection between automatic change detection system and perceptual categorization processes.
