Mivel a fűtési energiafogyasztás számításának egyik legelterjedtebb módszere a hőfokhíd értékét alkalmazza, kiemelt jelentőséget tulajdonítottam a hőfokgyakorisági görbe, valamint a hőfokhíd megállapításának. A továbbiakban a CarpathClim adatbázis külső hőmérséklet adatait felhasználva meghatároztam Magyarország 25 településére vonatkozóan a hőfokhíd értékeit. A legmagasabb fűtési energiaigény értékek É-i tájolás, nagy ablakméret és könnyű szerkezet esetében jelentkeztek. Adott ablakméret és hőtároló tömeg mellett a D-i és K-i tájolás vezet a legalacsonyabb fűtési energiaigényekhez.

In Hungary, heating represents an important proportion of the total energy use of a building. Accordingly, both when planning new buildings and refurbishing existing ones, special attention must be paid to measuring heating systems and choosing their constituent elements as carefully as possible. This is important, and because one of the widely used calculation methods for assessing heating energy demand is the heating degree day (HDD) method, during my work I have particularly focused on establishing the frequency distribution of temperature curves, and HDD values in Hungary. To do this, of course, it is necessary to establish the base internal temperature, as well as the external daily average temperature. I have carried out a literature survey on the establishment of the base temperature and balance point temperature. The balance point temperature of a building is extremely important, since it is crucial in the determination of the length of the heating season. In calculating the balance point temperature, besides the heat gain utilisation and the heat loss factors, the efficiency of the heat gain factor plays a very important role. I have analysed the relationships of the heat gain efficiency factor used in the international literature, and on the basis of the results obtained I have decided to use the Yohanis-Norton equation in my calculus. I have performed a long-term analysis of the heating degree day (HDD) for Debrecen, using the hourly results for external average temperature measured at the University of Debrecen’s Agro-Meteorology Station between 1964 and 2012. Using the results, I have examined the development of the frequency distribution curve over the last 50 years, and also the HDD values. With reference to the city of Debrecen, I have examined what effect the city heat island might have on the HDD and the resulting demands for heat energy. The CarpathClim database contains the daily minimum and maximum values, which allow us to establish the daily average temperature. I compared these with the data from the University of Debrecen’s Agro-Meteorology Station and found there is a 3.37% difference in the HDD values between the two databases over a 30 year period. Using the external temperature data from the CarpathClim database, I determined the HDD values for 25 settlements in Hungary, and compared them with data calculated by Macskásy for HDD for the period 1901-1930. In the framework of a case study, I examined three settlements, and – based on the geometrical and heat data of a typical family house – investigated what difference appears in the estimated natural gas consumption for heating, if the HDD values I have calculated are taken into account. The thermal storage mass and time constant play a significant role in the fluctuation of internal temperature. Accordingly, I examined what was the widest range of building materials used in Hungary over the last few decades, and taking account of the heat technical requirements, what would be the time constant values for a space with average geometrical parameters. The results obtained have proven that there are some differences between the energy demand for heating calculated using the degree day (HDD) curve for the years 1900-1930, and the energy demand calculated using the degree day curve for the years 1964-2012. Furthermore, for precise calculations, the heat island effects should be taken into account, otherwise the payback time for the refurbishment of a building can vary up to 22% from the expected value. According to our research, we argue for a calculation of heating demand of abuilding based on a variable degree day value. This can be extrapolated for future decades and continuously adjusted, based on the meteorological data measurements available. In cities, the heat island can have important effects on the heat demand of a building, consequently the degree day values must be corrected so as to obtain appropriate data related to the energy demand for heating. It was shown that differences of up to 10% can be registered throughout the country, taking as a reference point the currently used degree day curve. These differences can lead to significant errors in determining the payback time of investments. Using the CarpathClim database, the degree day was determined for different regions in Hungary. In Chapter 5 the outdoor dry bulb design temperatures used for dimensioning central heating systems in Hungary were analysed. It was proven that, in the case of currently used building materials, the stored heat and the time constant of the rooms permit the calculation of outdoor dry bulb design temperatures based on the daily average values. New outdoor design temperature values were determined for 1, 3, 5 and 7 day average outdoor temperatures at 99% and 99.5% confidence levels. It was found that the new design temperatures are significantly higher than the currently used values. The higher design temperature will lead to more precise dimensioning of the central heating system elements; consequently, the built in thermal output will be closer to the real heat demand of buildings. The reduction in the investment cost is higher in the case of large buildings than in single family houses. The cost differences depend on the new values of the outdoor design temperatures and represent values of between 4 and 10% for the cases analysed. The higher outdoor design temperature will lead to higher seasonal efficiency in the case of traditional boilers and lower seasonal efficiency in case of condensing boilers. The efficiency variation depends on the new value of the design temperature: for traditional boilers the increase can reach 0.6%, while for condensing boilers the decrease can reach 1.2%. The energy saving gained by intermittent heating is lower with higher outdoor design temperatures values and depends on the time constant of the room/building, as well as on its utilization time. In the PASSOL laboratory of the University of Debrecen a series of measurements were carried out in the years 2011-2014 (from March to April) in order to see the variation in the indoor air temperature. The main goal was to analyse the balance point temperature for heating. Using the methodology given by standard MSZ EN ISO 13790, I have calculated the expected air temperatures in the test room. The measured temperatures were compared with the calculated values. I have identified the periods of the day when the operative temperatures in the test room exceed 20 C, and 26 C. Based on the meteorological data (dry air temperature and solar radiation) of the 12 days analysed (2011-2014), a “reference day” was worked out. Using the outdoor temperature and solar intensity data of the reference day, I have analysed the operative temperature variation in rooms with different thermal mass, different glazing areas and different orientations of the glazed area. The hourly values of the efficiency factor have been determined. Using the degree day curve of the years 2008-2012, the heating energy demands of the analysed rooms (24 instances) were determined. I have performed the calculations for another 24 cases (Uw=1.3 W/m2K) and no significant differences were found in comparison with the previous cases (Uw=1.0 W/m2K). I have established that the differences between the heating energy demands can reach up to 11%, depending on the orientation, glazed area and thermal mass of the room. The highest energy demand for heating was found in the case of a northern orientation of the glazed area, the lowest thermal mass and the greatest window area. At a given window area and thermal mass, the lowest energy demand for heating was obtained for a southern and eastern orientation of the glazed area. At a given window size and orientation of the window, a lower energy demand for heating is obtained at a higher thermal mass.
