this thesis should allow the reader to unpack the whole the concept of various mental disorders in revealing what we categorize simply as “a disorder”, as something that includes wide range of different manifestations such as breakdowns in the machinery to pure dysfunction. Furthermore this thesis will examine psychopathology from an evolutionary point of view. Due to the immense quantity of mental diseases in the world today, this thesis will focus primarily on schizophrenia. It is believed that schizophrenia has existed all cultures, presumably since the beginning of civilization. The evolutionary enigma at hand is: How is it possible for a disease to persevere and survive, in order for it to affect an individual, despite fundamental reproductive disadvantages? Just as an organism must adapt and evolve through processes such as natural selection, so to does evolution enact upon a disease.
