A zenei tehetség fejlődését és kibontakozását befolyásoló tényezők vizsgálata

Absztrakt

Vizsgálati csoportomat a középfokon komolyzenét, főként hangszeres zenét tanuló 17-19 éves, pályaválasztás előtt álló fiatalok alkották (N=313), akik Magyarország nyolc zeneművészeti szakközépiskolájának utolsó két évfolyamán tanultak. Dolgozatomban először igyekszem áttekinteni a szakirodalom értékes megállapításait a témában. A hangszertanulás is korai életkorban kezdődik.

A tanulók 84 %-a zenésznek készül.

The subject of this dissertation is investigation of conditions favoring the development of musical talents. Certain aspects of applied psychology have been used in my approach. I have been a teacher of music, an expert of training talented musicians, and in addition, I have raised my four children to become successful professional musicians. I have investigated a group (N=313) of 17-19 years old students of classical music, mostly instrumentalists. They were students selected from eight music schools in Hungary, in their last years of studies, at the stage of making their carrier choice. The students of these schools have already passed rigorous admissions tests, they have studied 3-4 years in music school, therefore, musical testing was not needed.
Choice of instrument, effects of family conditions, carrier-orientation, practicing habits, development-support systems, the hierarchical value system of their activities and their achievements were evaluated using questionnaries. In addition, I have applied three other tests: The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) for adults, the SUPER work/value questionnaire, and Gordon’s Survey of Interpersonal Values, (SIV). The collected data was evaluated by the SPSS statistical program. In the introduction of my dissertation I have surveyed the relevant literature of the field. Reflections were made on the definition of musical talent, and I have attempted to construct a new model – the „house model” – for musical talent: looking in through the windows one can see the general and specific characteristics of the person, his/her abilities for the development of musical talent. The house itself is the environment that protect and help the person to develop. The family is the foundation of the house, the frame is the institutions, the teachers and colleagues. The housetop is the competitions, the management, favoring and leading to self-fulfillment. In my definition the musical talent is a person with good musical endowments, who is able to develop optimally and mentally, to reach her/his upper limits of musical abilities, leading to outstanding musical performance. The musical talent can be discovered at an early age. Playing an instrument also starts at an early age. In our samples successful students started playing their instrument significantly earlier, compared to those with less success. Beyond genetic endowment, the significance of socio-cultural setting is suggested by the fact that 77% of the music students had musicians in their family. Musician parents frequently start teaching their children at an early age, supporting them by all possible means, which may bear fruit in successful competitions. The opinion of the students is that diligence and persistence is the most important for their development. They list practicing as their number one activity. The students who practice more than average have significantly greater chance to become professional musicians. The ones who win competitions practice more in their free time. Personality testing has shown that the extroversion rating of the investigated sample is significantly higher than the Hungarian average in both the female and male groups. Regarding emotional instability the male group of the sample rates higher than the average, depending on the chosen instrument (singers rating higher). The difference is most significant regarding social attractiveness. This is can be regarded as an age-related phenomenon, a pattern which may manifest itself by the rejection of normal behavior. The Gordon test has indicated in six schools, that independence of female students rates high, compliance and need for support is average, the need for guidance and benevolence rating is low. The male students have also low need for guidance; the rest of the measured characteristics is average. The need for recognition was shown to be low for both male and female students. Regarding the high and low ratings, one school showed differences from the other six schools. Regarding work values, the esthetic judgments play an important role. In this Regard, the ranking hierarchy of the students is different from that of the non-musicians. The majority (84%) of the students want to be musician. The students with demonstrated success more frequently have aspirations to become solists. Although the difference was not significant, it can be stated that there are feminine and masculine choice of instruments, and there are unisex choices. Based on the evaluation of the results my hypotheses have been answered and conclusions have been reached. The most important conclusion: the studied age-group is not decisive to determine who shall be an outstanding musical talent, but there are predictive indications in this group. Strengthening the talent and supporting its unraveling may further the students to become successful professional musicians.
