Due to the high incidence of diseases affecting the oral cavity caused by bacteria, it is necessary to have a deeper understanding of the contributing microbial factors to propose a biogenic therapy. Microbial dysbiosis has emerged as a primary cause of a wide spectrum of oral disorders, as well as chronic autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Probiotics have seen a surge in popularity as a treatment option for a variety of mucosal diseases, this can be attributed to the rise in demand for "natural" medical care as well as an increase in antibiotic resistance. The objective of my thesis is to elaborate on the possible roles of probiotics and their mechanisms in the treatment of oral mucosal diseases, such as periodontitis, oral candidiasis, and oral lichen planus, as well as oral aphthous ulcers, geographic tongue, and peri-implant mucositis.
