dc.description.abstractEdible insects are potentially available for rural consumption in Laos. Due to a survey of the nine markets from three districts in Luang Prabang, interviewed some of the best insect hunters, consumers, and edible insect production households. There were approximately 39 edible insect species that farmers collected from natural habitats. The rainy season was the best collected season, which covered around 77%. 13 species of edible insect species were found and always sold in the markets as raw or cooked. 76% of edible insects sold in the markets were from the collection. People consume edible insects as a main dish or snack at least twice monthly. Edible insects provide extra income for rural households between 20 to 90 $ per month. But edible insect farming is still underdeveloped and needs more support and promotion to get more beneficial income in the future.
