This thesis expounds on the nature and functionality of various high-speed switching technologies such as the Crossbar, Clos and Omega networks and how they are applied in practice. Furthermore, this thesis presents a comparative investigation of several customized and default network topologies along with their respective performance evaluations which were drawn out based on some network parameters such as bandwidth utilization, throughput analysis and packet transmission rates. These analyses were effectively drawn out with the use of a software emulation tool known as Mininet. The Mininet software enabled the creation of customized and default network topologies with the use of commands and codes with an object-oriented programming language called Python. Finally, this thesis discusses briefly the routing techniques of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and shows a brief analysis of such networks.
