dc.description.abstractSaccharomyces bayanus has important applications in industry and scientific research, especially in biotechnology and production. With the help of the toxicity test, we decided to see the harmful effects of the heavy metal ions, cadmium and nickel on the yeast Saccharomyces bayanus. By creating a gradient in the concentrations of nickel or cadmium ions in 24 well plates, we could see the impact that these ions hold on S. bayanus’ growth. The results of experiments show that Saccharomyces bayanus growth is toxically affected by cadmium and nickel ions. Increased concentrations of these ions prevent the growth of yeast cells. The results of our experiments highlight how crucial it is to carefully assess the concentrations of nickel and cadmium ions in environments where Saccharomyces bayanus is present.
