Assessing various methods to observe and measure thermal production in mitochondria of brown adipocyte tissue. For the prevention and treatment of obesity and associated metabolic diseases, scientists are studying and discovering how activation of thermogenesis in brown adipocytes can be used to develop a novel treatment for obese and overweight individuals with the potential goal of increasing BAT activity and volume. In understanding the role of BAT, how hormones regulate its activity and UCP-1 activation needs to be understood. The assessment of thermogenesis in BAT discussed can be done using a variety of methods such as identifying molecular markers, isothermal calorimetry, and seahorse XF analyzer. A non-invasive method to investigate thermal production in BAT is infrared imaging which is also reviewed. These promising tools can assist academic and pharmaceutical research in establishing ground-breaking remedies to treat obesity.
