Absztrakt

This study investigated the physicochemical properties of soils from three different sites on the University of Debrecen campus and their effects on seed germination under varying salinity conditions. The results showed that soil pH remained relatively stable and close to neutral across all sites. Besides, electrical conductivity (EC) values were low, indicating minimal natural salinity. Variations in soil organic matter (LOI550) and calcium carbonate content (LOI950) were observed, reflecting some differences in soil composition, although these did not significantly influence pH or EC. Germination experiments revealed a clear dose-dependent response to salinity, with low salt concentrations showing neutral or slightly positive effects, while higher concentrations caused significant growth inhibition. Differences among sites were evident, with Site 1 and Site 2 showing greater variability and Site 3 exhibiting more consistent inhibitory responses. Overall, the findings demonstrate that plant growth responses to salinity are influenced not only by salt concentration but also by site-specific soil characteristics.
