This thesis work embodies five major Chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the thesis topic as well as the motivation and aim of the thesis paper. Chapter 2 dives into the topic of High-speed technologies including an overview of the main high-speed switching techniques used today, which include mainly the IP, ATM, and MPLS protocols. Furthermore, chapter 2 buttresses the MPLS technology, its features, and its functionality. Chapter 3 introduces the MPLS network simulation tool used and highlights the scenarios constructed with the software and finally extraction of the measured performance metrics. Furthermore, At the core of the thesis, different performance metrics are employed to evaluate the overall performance of the simulated MPLS network topology. Multiple graphs and values were generated to analyse the effects of these performance metrics as well as a comparison of the scenarios. Chapter 4 is dedicated to examining the graphs produced and created from the simulation of the scenarios. Additionally, Chapter 4 also discusses the performance evaluation of MPLS as a high-speed technology. Lastly, Chapter 5 provides a concluding remark based on the overall research work.
