In the theoretical part of the thesis work the processes used to create organic pigments, and the plant and animal components used to make dyes were described and categorized according to their chemical structure. The main focus of my research is the organic pigment indigo, the primary source of blue color. The indigo dye was explored in greater detail using Raman spectroscopy. The objective of the practical study was to gain knowledge about the Raman microscope, develop measurement technique skills, record the indigo's Raman spectrum, and recognize specific Raman shifts in the spectrum. The research on the chemical composition and functional groups of the organic pigment indigo blue was done due to the practical results I had gathered. The practical data obtained demonstrate the relationship between different Raman bands corresponding to specific functional groups and their intensity.
