Cloud-native applications require efficient HTTP routing for scalable, resilient, and secure service management, especially within Kubernetes environments. Contour, an Envoy-based ingress controller, offers HTTPProxy as a more powerful alternative to traditional Kubernetes Ingress, supporting complex and modular routing scenarios. This paper focuses on the HTTPProxy Inclusion feature, which introduces reusable, hierarchical routing configurations, allowing teams to manage service-specific logic independently within a shared infrastructure. By decentralizing routing logic, HTTPProxy Inclusion enhances scalability, maintainability, and system performance under high traffic. The approach promotes team autonomy while simplifying complex ingress configurations. The study evaluates this feature’s effectiveness and proposes patterns for validating modular ingress solutions in distributed microservice architectures.
