This thesis reports a complete comparative study between natural coagulants, wooden ash, and traditional starch for graywater treatment. The study reveals that the use of natural materials like wood ash, when combined with ferric chloride, is an efficient process to treat the pollutants (turbidity and organic matter) for environmentally friendly and sustainable management alternatives to chemical coagulants. Laboratory tests using both synthetic and real bathroom greywater indicate that the optimum dosages of these natural coagulants meet the international water quality guidelines. Furthermore, the potential of natural coagulants to be utilized as a tool for decentralized water management and water conservation programs is also discussed in the thesis. Overall, it promotes eco-efficient wastewater treatment technology with the focus on feasibility, sustainability, and economic cost.
