Hybrid aircraft represent a significant innovation in aviation by combining conventional gas turbine engines with electric or hydrogen-based propulsion systems. These aircraft offer the potential to transform the aviation sector, significantly reducing environmental impact by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. Hybrid propulsion systems improve fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, making air travel more sustainable. The electric motors in hybrid aircraft produce no emissions during operation, while hydrogen-powered systems emit only water vapor, thus reducing the carbon footprint of aviation. Additionally, the quieter electric propulsion systems help mitigate noise pollution near airports and flight paths, benefiting surrounding communities. Energy efficiency is enhanced through the recovery and reuse of energy during descent and braking. However, the development of hybrid aircraft faces challenges, including the need for extensive research and development, as well as adjustments to infrastructure, regulations, and operational protocols. Despite these hurdles, hybrid aircraft offer a promising path toward greener aviation and reduced dependency on nonrenewable energy sources.
