Schizosaccharomyces japonicus is a species of yeast that belongs to the Schizosaccharomyces genus and is known for its significance in genetic and microbiological research, particularly as a model organism for studying dimorphism and cell division. Many yeasts can be employed as biocontrol agents in agriculture and biotechnology to combat harmful microorganisms, as they possess natural antagonistic properties that inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi and bacteria. The strain of Schizosaccharomyces japonicus used in this research was the wild type 7-1 in its yeast and hyphal form.
