dc.description.abstractThis research is focused on the characterization of LaBr3(Ce) detectors for nuclear astrophysics measurements. After experimentation using LaBr3(Ce) detectors with and without lead shielding, we investigated various parameters such as intrinsic background, energy resolution, detection efficiency, etc. Studies showed that despite using lead shielding for the background elimination, the detector was still detecting the radiation of intrinsic background below 2600 keV. We also tested the full width at half maxima (FWHM) at different energies between 700 and 853 𝑉. This confirmed that the system has constant performance. These tests of the FWHM in different counting rates between specific frequencies also confirmed the stability of the system. The detection efficiency was also measured on different source-detector distances that proved the availability of extrapolation and interpolation that can be used for a LaBr3 (Ce) detector’s sensitivity studies. Using the conclusions of this work, building of the GEANT4 simulation code for LaBr3 (Ce) detector is planned. This finally will be used for the LaBr3 (Ce) scintillator based array for the experiments in the field of nuclear astrophysics. Experiments in this research proved success with an acceptable results.
