| dc.description.abstract | This thesis tries to examine the "oil curse" in the economy of Nigeria and how a country that is blessed with natural resources is drowning in poverty and debt. Typically, the discovery of oil in a country should be the turning point in a country's financial fortunes as it should lead to a lot of economic and infrastructural development. Sadly, that has not been the case with Nigeria. The oil industry of Nigeria is the bedrock of the country's economy; however, the nation is ravished by a corrupt government, a lot of political and economic crises. Despite the revenue generated from oil exports, the country holds a significant unemployment rate and a high poverty rate. This paper takes a deep dive into Nigeria as a country, considering the impacts (positive and negative) of oil production. It would paint a picture of what Nigerian government can learn from Norway if they intend to get back to the right economic track. we will be looking at oil curse in the Nigerian economy . What major part does oil play in the Nigeria? What is the primary reason for the oil resource curse in Nigeria? What are the effects of this problem on the Nigerian Economy?
