Synthesis of C-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acyl-β-D-glycopyranosyl)-Formaldehyde Acylhydrazones, as Potential Bidentate Ligands for the Formation of Half-Sandwich Type Platinum-Group Metal Complexes

The modern challenge in the pharmaceutical field now is to design multitargeted drugs to treat diseases such as cancer. One way to design a multitargeted chemotherapeutical drug is to research glycomimetics. These are the main topics of interest of the Chemical Glycobiology Research Group, based in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Debrecen, which has actively researched, designed, and synthesized a large number of sugar derivatives that have the potential to be bioactive. During this work, different acylated C-glycopyranosyl-formaldehyde-acyl hydrazone derivatives were produced and will be used for the synthesis of half-sandwich platinum metal complexes. These complexes will be checked in order to have cytostatic activity against carcinoma and lymphoma cancer cells, since the compounds currently used in chemotherapy are not sufficient to fight against tumours due to their developing resistance and dosage limitations.
