    Different Types of Motivation That Affect Hungarian Secondary School Students Learning English as a Foreign Language

    This graduate paper is undertaken to explore the distribution of the different types of motivation that exist in two groups of students in a secondary school in Kisvárda. The research aims to reveal which characteristics of integrativeness and instrumentality are relevant in a smaller Hungarian educational context. Furthermore, it also aims to discover the students’ interests and preferences concerning language learning in the classroom. The research is based on a questionnaire and observations. The reason for choosing these research instrument is that they provide a reliable picture of students’ orientations to learn English. Observations are useful for gaining impressionistic views about the classroom atmosphere, teacher-student relationships, types of activities, groupings, class management and so on. The objective of the procedure is to see whether the characteristics of integrativeness and instrumentality in FLL are applicable in a smaller Hungarian learning context, furthermore to determine the students’ interests and preferences related to the learning environment.
