    Internationalization Strategies and Globalization at Hungarian Universities after COVID-19 Pandemic

    This dissertation investigates the contribution of internationalization strategies to globalization in Hungarian higher education institutions after the COVID-19 pandemic. It focuses on the perspective of international students and examines how study abroad programs, international research collaborations, international partnerships, artificial intelligence, and funding opportunities affect globalization outcomes. The study is grounded in idealism, instrumentalism, the Uppsala Model, and the Business Network Internationalization Process Model. A quantitative survey design was applied, using data collected from 443 international students and alumni of Hungarian universities. The empirical analysis was conducted with SPSS Version 29, including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, cross-validation, and mediation testing. The findings show that study abroad programs, international research collaborations, and funding opportunities have a positive and statistically significant effect on globalization in Hungarian higher education institutions. Among these factors, study abroad programs made the strongest contribution, followed by international research collaborations and funding opportunities. By contrast, international partnerships and artificial intelligence did not show a statistically significant direct contribution to globalization in the examined model. The mediation analysis also found that perceived globalization risks do not significantly mediate the relationship between internationalization strategies and globalization. The dissertation contributes to higher education internationalization research by showing that globalization after the pandemic is mainly strengthened through mobility, research cooperation, and financial support, while digital and partnership-related mechanisms require further institutional development.
