The owners of the teams have net worths running into billions of dollars whilst the teams make hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue. However, many of the stadia are not financed by the wealthy owners but by the tax paying public. Owners pit various cities against each other to compete for the hosting rights for the teams. In this thesis, I question whether this form of public funding is prudent considering that the money could be spent for more deserving community development. The thesis will also convey that the economic and social benefits of public funded stadia is overstated.
