    Diabetes mellitus are a group of metabolic disorders characterised by a chronic increase of blood glucose levels either due to a lack of insulin secretion, a decreased insulin action on tissues or both. The two main types of diabetes are type 1 and type 2, with type 2 accounting for 90-95% of people with diabetes. Management of type 2 diabetes include lifestyle interventions and pharmacological therapy of which are discussed in this thesis
