    Investigating Authentication Methods for Access Control

    The thesis investigates various authentication methods for access control, highlighting the increasing necessity for robust security mechanisms in the digital landscape. It begins by discussing the vulnerabilities of traditional password-based systems, which are susceptible to attacks such as brute-force and phishing. The research evaluates alternative methods, including two-factor authentication (2FA) and biometric systems, analyzing their effectiveness, user experience, and implementation challenges. A comprehensive evaluation framework, termed the "security scorecard," is introduced to assess these authentication methods based on criteria like security effectiveness, cost, and scalability. Ultimately, the thesis aims to provide insights for organizations to enhance their security strategies and reduce the risks associated with unauthorized access.
