    HIV is a chronic infection that reduces the quality of life and increases the dependency on drug therapy and care givers.There is still no definite cure for HIV infection but the infection has been managed over the years by the help of drugs that target the stages in the life cycle of HIV. This drug groups include nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors, non nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, integrase strand inhibitors and protease inhibitors. These drug groups have been effective over the years but with the high mutation rate of HIV, multidrug resistance may be a problem of the future and therefore additional therapeutic approaches are warranted.
