    Novel possibilities in pharmacological treatment of childhood leukemia

    Leukemia is responsible for roughly 30%, a third, of childhood cancers, with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) being the most prevalent subtype in children. It usually arises due to either genetic syndromes, environmental and infectious factors or it arises de novo. Symptoms of leukemia include but are not limited to fatigue, fever, excessive sweats, easy bleeding and bruising It is diagnosed by blood tests and biopsies. Treatment for leukemia has improved over the years and it shows that with intense and rigorous therapy remission is indeed possible in some cases. Established treatments like chemotherapy and stem cell transplant have had success in the last half century
