    Drug delivery is important for the treatment of chronic conditions. what drug delivery entails, it refers to systems applied to transport pharmaceutical compounds in the body, which sometimes is based on nanoparticles as needed in safely achieving the desired therapeutic effect. the progress in technology has seen the innovation of various drug delivery systems such as liposomes, micelles, micro/nanoparticles and hydrogel systems which have advantages in- clinic for treatment of many diseases. The uses of both single and combined drug methodologies are applied to overcome multidrug resistance. Dentistry has adopted the use of DDS, which reduces side effects compared to conventional drugs for periodontitis and tissue engineering. Some of the recent trends in dental drug delivery systems include: dental inserts, iontophoresis, and mucoadhesive.
