They are used to prevent acute thrombotic strokes and treat venous thromboses. They have plenty of superior qualities compared to their older anticoagulant rivals. With proper knowledge of their mechanisms of action, indications, side effect profiles, interactions, and contraindications the emergency medicine professionals are more confident in prescribing them and are encouraged to do so when a good candidate presents. Emergency medicine physicians are also on the frontlines of facing acute adverse situations, such as bleedings, in patients on NOACs.
