Tétel Korlátozottan hozzáférhető American vs. Hungarian Stand-up Comedy(2014-05-06T07:54:42Z) Springer, Fruzsina; Varró, Gabriella; DE--Bölcsészettudományi KarThe American and Hungarian stand-up comedy performances are far from identical. In order to properly examine the political criticism present in recent stand-up comedy, the first part of this paper will be dedicated to the comparison of the history and development of stand-up comedy in the United States and in Hungary. The second part of the paper will look into the artistry of two comedians who were contemporaries to each other: George Carlin from the American side, and Géza Hofi from Hungary, and compare their comedy by focusing on the influence of the political context, the choice of targets they decided to criticize, and the way they addressed these target issues.Tétel Korlátozottan hozzáférhető Anti-Americanism in Hungary in the 21st Century(2013-01-18T12:27:02Z) Springer, Fruzsina; Glant, Tibor; DE--TEK--Bölcsészettudományi KarHostile sentiments towards Americans are coeval with the United States herself. In the 19th century an exceedingly positive image was substantiated by Sándor Farkas Bölöni – the description of the U.S. in his travelogue took root in the Hungarian mindset and still has its effects. However, the original picture is much faded: the events of the 20th century - the world wars, the decades of communist regime; and the 21st century corroded the glory of the U.S appreciably.
