    Mountainous Regions and Aviation Safety: Assessing Risks and Mitigation

    This study explores the challenges and safety measures associated with aviation in mountainous regions. The thesis aims to identify and mitigate hazards specific to mountainous flying, such as weather-related issues and Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) incidents. Using an extensive review of existing literature and case studies, the study examines the formation and impact of adverse weather phenomena like turbulence, wind shear, and mountain waves. It highlights the critical role of advanced technologies and instruments, such as Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS) and Synthetic Vision Systems (SVS), etc., in enhancing flight safety. The research also emphasizes the importance of specialized pilot training, including mountain ratings and thorough pre-flight preparations, to ensure safe operations in these challenging environments. The study concludes with a case study that illustrates practical applications of the discussed safety measures, reinforcing the necessity of comprehensive preparation and advanced technology in mitigating risks in mountainous aviation.
