    This study investigates the asymmetric rhythmic features of Balkan folk music and chain dance, with particular focus on their rhythmic ambiguities, temporal structures in music and dance, and artistic significance. Drawing on the music of Béla Bartók, rhythmic innovations in Western modern art, and examples from ancient Hellenic choreia, the article proposes a new, integrative interpretative framework for analyzing the rhythmic complexities of Balkan folk music. The research emphasizes that rhythm is not merely a musical phenomenon, but also a movement- and community-based one, which must be interpreted within its social and cultural context. This approach contributes to a deeper aesthetic and historical understanding of 20th-century folk music and dance traditions.
