Doktori értekezésemben a régi Ugocsa vármegye ó- és középmagyar kori helyneveinek vizsgálatát végeztem el. Az elemzés során azt mutattam be, hogy az egyes eredet szerinti névrétegek adnak-e lehetőséget etnikai következtetésekre, illetve milyenekre, és azok mennyiben igazolják az eddigi szakirodalmi nézeteket. Emellett arra is utaltam, hogy az egyes nyelvi rétegek különböző helynévfajtáinak nyelvi elemzésében milyen különbségeket (és hasonlóságokat) tapasztalhatunk. Végül azt vizsgáltam meg, hogy a névállomány milyen mértékben határozza meg önmaga bővülését, épülését. Ennek során a névbokrosodás komplex folyamatának csak azzal a formájával foglalkoztam, amelynek során a létrejövő név a felhasznált (alap)névhez képest új objektumot jelölt meg. A jelenségvizsgálat ó- és középmagyar kori tendenciáinak leírásán túl a kikövetkeztetés módszertani elveit is számba vettem. The Dissertation analyses the Old and Middle Hungarian settlement names of the Comitatus of Ugocsa. Through the analysis, it is revealed if the settlement name strata broken down by origin can be used to provide for ethnic-related conclusions, and if so, what kind of conclusions can be drawn, and to what extent these conclusions justify the findings described in the literature so far. It is also discussed what kind of differences (and similarities) can be observed with respect to the linguistic analysis of the diverse types of toponyms of the individual language strata. Finally, it is also analysed to what extent the stock of names is responsible for its own extension and development. As part of this analysis, out of the complex process of name clustering only that type of clustering is addressed here where the newly developed name denotes a new object as compared to the (basic) name it is generated from. Apart from describing the tendencies pertaining to the analysis of the phenomenon prevailing in the Old and Middle Hungarian periods, the Dissertation also discusses methodological principles related to inferring.
