Investigating the potency of BTI-18 and ASZ-07 as new antifungal agents on 3 Candida species; C. albicans, C. krusei, and C. parapsilosis

Absztrakt

Candida species are considered one of the most common causes of fungal infections worldwide. Notwithstanding, many species of them are deemed to be healthy parasites and endosymbionts of hosts like humans, But, when they overgrow or when the immune system is weakened, they may invade and result in a variety of diseases varying from superficial, such as thrush, to invasive candidiasis. Consequently, Candida species have become one of the major causes of considerable morbidity and mortality in patients with weak immune systems. Because the presently existing antifungal drugs do not cope with the rising demands of managing infection in complex patient populations, the creation of new antifungal drugs in clinical therapy was constantly required. On the other hand, due to the frequent misuse of antifungal drugs, yeasts have been able to improvise new mechanisms for drug resistance. Hence, These prompted us to look for alternative new highly antifungal drugs.
