Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition characterised by the loss of ovarian function before the age of 40 years. This thesis reviews the etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of POI. Early recognition is important as it allows timely treatment and appropriate fertility management while reducing the risk of long-term complications. POI is associated with infertility and several long-term consequences, particularly those involving bone, cardiovascular, psychological and neurological health. Current management is mainly focused on hormone replacement therapy and fertility-related interventions. Recent advances such as in vitro activation, platelet-rich plasma, stem cell therapy, and in vitro gametogenesis may provide new treatment possibilities in the future, although further research is still required.
