This thesis by Hira Kamran from the University of Debrecen investigates the role and clinical efficacy of hatchet flap plasty in reconstructing soft-tissue defects following skin tumor excision.  Cutaneous malignancies such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma are frequently treated with surgical excision, which frequently leaves functional and aesthetic defects. The hatchet flap is highlighted as a hybrid of advancement and transposition techniques that effectively redistributes wound tension while maintaining a reliable dermal and subdermal blood supply. Because it recruits local tissue with matching color, texture, and thickness, the technique provides superior cosmetic integration and structural restoration compared to skin grafting. The study demonstrates that hatchet flap plasty achieves high success rates, minimal complications, and excellent patient satisfaction, particularly in sensitive anatomical areas like the face and scalp.
