The topic of my dissertation is the image of Islam in the United States after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Approximately a year ago I came across an article I found randomly, about how Muslims are treated in Western societies after 9/11. It prompted me read several other articles about the aftermath of 9/11. For this particular reason, I decided to choose to elaborate on the image of Islam in the United States after 9/11 as the topic of my dissertation. During the research of the topic there were several findings pointing to new and interesting questions. The above-mentioned article that I read for the first time on the issue elaborated on how the media deal with Muslim-related issues in the post 9/11 world. I have found it very sad, because I have a lot of Muslim friends in many countries and I know they have nothing to do with the attributes the media uses in connection with them. The media describes them as a group using labels such as fundamentalists, fanatics and terrorists. One can rarely hear these words associated with any other group; however, if one is familiar with what is going on everywhere in the world, one will realize that in each group there are bad people.hu_HU
