In order to understand the relation between lipid abnormalities and hypothyroidism its essential to have a complete understanding of lipid metabolism and the thyroid gland and its metabolism too, only then a clinician can diagnose hypothyroidism that is resulting in lipid abnormalities. The treatment goal is to correct the hypothyroidism and for that most commonly levothyroxine is administered with slight changes in lifestyle, once that’s done we can expect in majority of the patients to have self corrected lipid profile, however if it doesn’t, we can use additional measures such as lifestyle adjustment, statins and additional drugs such as ezetimibe or PCSK9 inhibitors.hu_HU
