dc.description.abstractHyperthyroidism is a clinical condition which is caused by the excessive production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. The disease is characterised by elevated levels of the thyroid hormone T4 and T3. Based on the levels of TSH and the thyroid hormones, hyperthyroidism can be further classified into two, subclinical and overt hyperthyroidism. Subclinical hyperthyroidism is characterized by low serum TSH levels with normal levels of thyroid hormones T4 and T3 while Overt hyperthyroidism is characterized by low serum TSH levels with elevated serum T4 and T3 levels. The clinical manifestation of hyperthyroidism ranges from cardiovascular, neurological, and common symptoms. There are also accompanying signs of hyperthyroidism which includes exophthalmos, enlarged or nodular thyroid glands, pain upon palpation of the thyroid gland.hu_HU
