Through this film, I would like to have a closer look at how the symbol of the tree of life is (or rather was) represented in different human cultures all around the world. Moreover, I will analyse how, why and for what purpose the tree is represented in Darren Aronofsky's cinematographic piece entitled The Fountain. The story of the film got inspiration mainly from Mayan and Christian mythologies. It shows the struggle of a man and a woman with death. Completed with some imaginary elements, the story affects our heart through a sad love story. The film tries to find the fountain of life, just as my essay is focusing on the eternal mystery of life and death.hu_HU
