dc.description.abstractPostoperative ileus arises when normal propulsion of food in the small intestine, is obstructed due to problems with smooth muscle contractility or enteric nervous system pathologies. Close to 26% of trauma patients were diagnosed with ileus (Virani et al 2018) Abdominal surgeries (50%) (Yin et al 2015). POI delays enteral feeding which increases the length of hospital stays (Vather, O'Grady, Bissett, & Dining, 2014). Inflammation is a major contributor to postoperative ileus. Currently, there is no single efficient strategy to reduce postoperative ileus significantly. This study focuses on the effects of CXCL1, a cytokine upregulated in smooth muscle after the induction of ileus.hu_HU
