In this dissertation I would like to present and compare the main features of English Romanticism through Walter Scott’s historical novels. I want to analyse two famous novels belonging to the same literary trend written by the Scottish Walter Scott. The two representative novels that have been selected are Waverley and Ivanhoe. I chose these works because both of them are very famous, one of them was the first work of the author in this new genre and gave reputation to him. The other chosen novel is set in an earlier historical period. They both show an authentic picture about the writer’s homeland. So we can observe the main features of the historical novel and that of Romanticism, too.hu_HU
