In our modern and ever-changing world, we often encounter stereotypes based on race, gender or other features and categories. It comes from our human nature that we make generalizations and simplify the world that surrounds us. However, these can narrow our visions and make us identify whole countries, nations and groups of people with preconceived characteristics, established in the form of stereotypes. These stereotypes are reinforced and spread through various means: portrayals in media, television, film, music, etc. The purpose of this thesis is to explore how 21st-century Hollywood cinema depicts and spreads stereotypes about people of Hispanic origin, especially Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. I explore the portrayals of Hispanics in contemporary American movies and provide and overview why these stereotypes are so relevant in our modern society.
