I chose female roles as the central topic of my thesis because I am interested in this change, hereby I would like to analyse the most important roles of women. I also chose films for help and I would like to describe how these female roles appeared in the movies recent years. I could have chosen literary works to help the analysis of the female roles, but I wanted to see the roles in the interpretation of the movies. The films I want to analyse have the same female protagonist and she is Julia Roberts. I decided to write about her films because she has already played the most important female roles including mother, lover, and an unemployed wife with three children and without husband, she played a successful lawyer, a medical student and also the ‘new woman’ of the century, the single.
