This thesis is aimed to examine the financial system of the United States and the errors in it, that have led to an economic collapse in September 2008, as well as the response manifested in government policies and rescue packages that came after. In order to understand the crisis, it is essential to take a closer look at the institutions influencing finance in the USA and internationally, monetary policies, and the banking system, as well as the country’s place in world economy.
