In the thesis, I argue that using her fame to spread ideas of racial equality, an African American entertainer made a change and supported the Civil Rights Movement. “Mississippi Goddam,” her very first protest song written and performed, which appeared in the early 1960s, represents the struggles of discrimination of an era; Nina Simone's tragic history that of African Americans in general, and her realization of the disadvantage of the slow attitude of those in power.
